Tower Bottega kettle review

We loved the unusual look of this statement kitchen appliance, which it combines with good functionality and performance. Taller than a pyramid kettle and rounder than a jug style – it's distinctive. We tested the black and rose gold version, it's also available in white and rose gold.

There's an old-style thermometer feature, which shows the water temperature rising as the kettle heats up. It means you can switch it off when it reaches a lower temperature if you want to, though you can’t set it to do this automatically. If this is a feature you’re particularly looking for, the Bosch Cordless Kettle would be a good alternative to look at.

The contoured handle is stylish and easy to hold – it arches over the lid which makes it slightly trickier to fill than kettles with handles on the side. We liked the pull-off lid with its ring-shaped top, it means you can hook your finger into it and pull it off effortlessly. The lid is also quite large so once removed, there’s a lot of space to negotiate the kettle around a tap for filling. Its height shouldn’t hinder this.

The rose gold 'on' switch lights up so you can see it’s working. Like you’d expect, there’s an automatic switch-off system when it’s finished boiling.

The kettle was one of the quietest we tested and we had no problem listening to the radio as it heated up. It was reasonably quick, too, boiling our litre of water in an average of 2 minutes 16 seconds. The only downside was the water level indicator, as the markings are difficult to read.
