For those who take their tea seriously, the Bosch Sky cordless kettle is an exciting piece of kit. Unlike traditional models, this gives the user total control, from water temperature to boiling time, so you can make a variety of drinks with a precision rarely achieved.
Design-wise, this kettle strikes a good balance between being sleek and sturdy with a black base offset by a chrome and stainless steel body that's double-walled for safety and efficiency. While the exterior feels cool to touch on the outside, the water stays hotter for longer inside.
It's also super-easy to control with a ‘TouchControl’ gauge that offers four temperature settings. You activate these by swiping your finger across the base like a touch-screen. It switches on from the base, too, which has 360-degree sensitivity for left- or right-handed control.
Because of its smart base, the kettle has a larger footprint than traditional kettles, but it's deep rather than wide, so it shouldn’t be a deal-breaker if you have a small kitchen. It's also non-slip, which is useful for smooth work surfaces.
Depending on the beverage you're making, you have a choice of 70°C, 80°C, 90°C or 100°C and the rising temperature is tracked by the blue light on its thermometer – a handy visual indicator of how close you are to your cuppa. It's not the quietest of kettles but it is the quickest, boiling water in 2 minutes 6 seconds. Once it's done, it automatically turns off and there’s a small bleep.
A design feature we particularly like is the safety lock lid, which flips up vertically, making it easy to fill. For areas with hard water, the limescale filter pops out at the top. There’s also a ‘keep warm’ button to hold boiled water at a steady temperature for 30 minutes.
