Pros

Salter EK2182 mini chopper pro summary
The most compact model we tested, the Salter mini chopper is neat, tidy, affordable and suitable for chopping nuts, meat and fish, as well as making breadcrumbs and dips such as guacamole and hummus. It’s just the thing if you’re looking for a gadget to save you time in the kitchen every now and then, but larger families or keen cooks may want a more powerful or sizeable model.

How is the Salter mini chopper to use?
The appeal of the Salter mini chopper lies in its size and ease of use. It does what it says on the tin: there are no accompanying bells and whistles such as a recipe booklet, spatula or storage lid like other models we tested, but given it’s budget-friendly price, it’s to be expected.
It’s straightforward to set up and operate; the blade and bowl attach neatly to the power unit, with the lid locking into place securely to prevent any spillages.
Once plugged in, it’s a simple one touch-operation. The button is located on the top of the base unit, which is easy to operate with one or two fingers. That said, the ridges on the power button may be slightly uncomfortable for those looking to use it for an extended length of time.
Does the Salter mini chopper work well?
Compared with other models, it’s slightly rickety and noisier, and the power button does need to be pressed quite firmly to operate. While it took slightly longer to blitz breadcrumbs than other mini choppers we tested, the resulting crumbs were consistently broken up for the most part, with the occasional chunky bit left over.
Onion took a bit more work – it needed a good mix and to be pulsed again a couple of times – but in the end was chopped pretty consistently, although for expert precision and a super-fine dice, you may want to opt for a more advanced chopper.
The chute, located on the top of the lid, allows for extra liquid such as olive oil to be added while in operation, but unlike some models there isn’t a chute for extra food pieces, so you’ll need to remove the lid if you want to add any extra solids to the mix.
Whether you keep the box it comes in or not, it’s easy to store away and clean, so really is one for smaller kitchens, or those with limited storage.
Verdict
Its reasonable price means that even if it’s used only occasionally, it’s could still be worth it. Overall, it’s a great entry-level mini chopper.
