Salter Cosmos 3 in 1 blender set summary

Although not the heftiest of the models we tried, this bargain hand blender from Salter is a good choice for light or occasional use. For under £30, it did everything we asked of it, but we felt that perhaps it didn’t have the robust quality of other, more expensive models to be a long-termer in the kitchen. The blades and bowl can be put in the dishwasher, so that was a definite plus after a smoothie-making session.

Salter Cosmos 3 in 1 blender set first impressions

It was very easy to put this hand blender together for the first time, since the chopping blade is actually attached to the ‘arm’ and doesn’t have to be put in place – something that can be tricky when the attachments are interchangeable. This is a no-nonsense model – there’s a simple choice of blending or whisking, so you don’t have to fiddle with small attachments, just the chunky end pieces for the main motor body. There’s also a bowl and chopper attachment, with the motor attaching to the lid and spinning the interior blade. This would be useful for small batches of veg or for finely chopping baby food.

Salter Cosmos 3 in 1 blender results

With 350 watts of power, this is not going to tear through fruit smoothies like a pro-grade hand blender, even on the ‘turbo’ setting. But using a wider Pyrex jug meant we could waggle the wand around a bit more and make sure all the fruit had been drawn towards the blade.

Mayonnaise was made successfully, again not as instant a mix as some of the other models we tried, as we had to slowly draw the wand up through the egg and oil mixture a few times to get the right consistency, but for this price, that’s no big deal.

The storage stand for both main attachment arms felt flimsy until weighted down with the blender and whisk attachments, and the main body wobbles around a bit rather than clicking into place, but it does do a good job of keeping everything neat on the worktop if you’re going to leave it out on display.

Salter Cosmos 3 in 1 blender set verdict

This blender set does the job for a great price. A no-brainer choice for occasional use, student kitchens and those who suspect their smoothie-making health kick may not be here for the long haul.
