The stylish good looks and sturdy build of the Sage the Fast Slow Pro made this a popular appliance in our review of the best slow cookers.
It's tall, but has a relatively small footprint for a multicooker. It's also made of high-grade brushed steel, and every aspect of the machine is solid, from the strong handles and ceramic-coated steel inner pot to the secure removable lid.
As the name suggests, this is both a fast pressure cooker and slow cooker, and these functions can be selected via the large, bright LED screen. The responsive dial flicks through the settings quickly – there are 11 preset settings as well as a custom setting for pressure cooking, while the slow-cook settings range from high to low.
We liked that the cooker is capable of searing and sautéing, making it a real one-pot cooker. It was able to sear 900g meat for a stew in a super-fast 8 minutes.
Once all the ingredients and stock were added to the pot and the lid closed, the pressure-cooked stew was ready in an impressive 20 minutes, with very little washing-up to do.
The slow cooker made a delicious, dark brown stew in four hours on high, but as the lid seals so tightly, there was no reduction in the gravy, which is usual with other slow cookers.
This is where the reduction setting comes in to play – once the dish is cooked, a quick flick of the dial will have it bubbling away nicely. Our stew had reduced well in 5 minutes.
Clean-up is easy: the ceramic coating of the pot means it needs little more than a quick wash, and the pot and lid are dishwasher safe for added ease.
The included recipe book offers 41 recipes by Heston Blumenthal, and the instruction book is equally well-written and easy to follow.
