This knife feels modern and traditional all at once, with its water-resistant ash wood handle (handwashing still recommended) and a mixture of carbon-stainless steel that's great for both durability and corrosion resistance.

It's weighted perfectly and feels light overall even considering its actual weight and evidently robust build. The point and tip, though not visibly that distinct, work brilliantly as well.

One of the sharpest and most useable of the chef's knives we tested, the Richardson Sheffield made light work of most of our challenges.

It was perhaps the most impressive overall when it came to the classic paper test (pre and post sharpening) and handled the rest effortlessly.

Both the blade and handle help this knife move seamlessly with little grip resistance. It's worth noting that its extra weight was an issue in some cases, for example it moved the tomato around a little when trying to slice freehand.

It was one of the most natural to use and nicely designed knives that we tested, showcasing high-quality engineering and craftsmanship.

There are slight issues with longevity – of the edge and handle – and so care will be needed to help it last a long time. But at this reasonable price, it's a fantastic buy and will make you look like a pro as you breeze through kitchen tasks.
