Lakeland No Mess waffle maker summary
This easy-to-use, attractive waffle maker is perfect for big families or those who like to make bigger batches at once. It produces four waffles at a time – the most of any machine we tested – but you can make less, as it works perfectly well making just two.

What we liked about the Lakeland No Mess waffle maker
The machine scored highly on design. If you put too much mixture in – all too easy to do if you like thick waffles in particular – the excess will run into channels at the side instead of leaking out of the machine and making a mess of your worktop. There was no clean-up required after one. There are non-slip feet to keep it steady, too.
A sleek silver and black machine, it comes with straightforward instructions and clear guidelines for how much to put in (so if you follow these you shouldn’t need those side ridges). There are also five useful recipes. We particularly liked that there were some options for variety or different diets, alongside the traditional ones – courgette and parmesan waffle, anyone?
How is the Lakeland No Mess waffle maker to use?
Heating it took just over three minutes – pretty speedy considering its size. The red/green power indicators are particularly clear. When you switch it on, the light is red, with the green light coming on when it’s ready for action.
The machine is simple to open and close and there’s no clasp, so it’s easy to lift it for a sneaky peek to see how it’s getting on.
We made several batches of four and the machine heated quickly each time. Within five minutes of pouring in the batter, it produced good sized waffles that were coloured well on both sides, although a couple of the corners were slightly less browned than the rest.
The waffles were pleasingly fluffy and slid easily out of the machine thanks to the Teflon dual non-stick coating. They were a decent size too – we measured them at about 9 x 10cm.
How practical is the Lakeland No Mess waffle machine?
This is a bigger than average machine, so it will need to be used regularly to earn its cupboard space. We also had to move other items around on the worktop to make space for it, though this won’t be a problem for bigger kitchens.
The plates are fixed in the machine so you can’t put it in the dishwasher or the sink. We found it wiped easily with a damp cloth.
