iceQ tabletop lockable fridge in a nutshell

Pros: lockable, great space, antibacterial coating
Cons: marks easily

Star rating: 4/5

Available from:
Amazon (£99.99)
Mini Fridge (£99.99)

The iceQ is a well-built, sturdy mini fridge with the standout feature of being lockable which could be a bonus in a shared space like an office or dorm room.

The lock itself is not the strongest and might not stop someone getting in if they really needed to, but otherwise it's a good feature on this smart cube-shaped fridge.

The satiny, black finish on the iceQ looks good but we found it showed fingerprints easily and wiping off with a damp cloth did smear a little, so for the obsessively clean this could become irritating.

Fingerprints showing aside, we were delighted with the addition of an anti-bacterial coating on the interior of the fridge which inhibits the growth of mould and odours, good for those who perhaps may not wipe out their fridges as often as they should.

The neatly recessed handle was easy to grab and there was a good snap to the close, which reassures that it's well and truly shut.

The thermostat is easy to see and use with six clear settings. Our thermometers showed a good steady internal temperature over the test. The food and drinks stored well, and even after a week had hardly diminished.

The icebox, as with all the mini fridges we tested with such a feature, will store ice but not food. It is manual defrost and comes with a handy drip tray to make this a little easier.

There is only one wire shelf and though removable, making it great for storing tall bottles and containers, it was not adjustable. The door shelves are not adjustable either, but the wire rail at the bottom is, so it can take a full-sized wine bottle and a 4-litre milk bottle.

Though there are no adjustments there is a generous 48 litres of space inside, so with a little bit of moving around, standing up and laying down of items, this fridge can store a substantial amount of food and drink.

Staggeringly, this fridge was one of the quietest compressor-type fridges at only 40 decibels and we had no problems with excessive noise or frequent humming. With all these additional features, good looks, lock and generous size, it was the cheapest on the test, so a real bargain for the quality.
