Everdure Fusion barbecue by Heston Blumenthal

Pros: Ready to cook in 10 minutes, stylish look
Cons: One level grill

Overall score: 4/5

The contemporary Everdure Fusion would look good in any garden or patio. Designed by Heston Blumenthal, the name 'Fusion' reflects the combination of the easy lighting of a gas barbecue with the beauty of cooking on coals.

After loading the coals onto the central dome, you press the ignition button and lighting begins. It automatically switches off after nine minutes when the coals are ready to cook on. Simple!

There's only one level for the grill, but the conductivity of heat from the porcelain enamel firebox is excellent. By moving the coals to one side, it's possible to cook and keep food warm simultaneously.

There's still a lot of shifting and moving of food required, but if you enjoy that, this would be a bonus. The cooking results were superb. The Fusion also comes with a rotisserie for cooking a whole chicken, fish or piece of meat.

There are no wheels, making moving it tricky, but the barbecue lifts quickly and easily from the stand and can even go on the dinner table.

There's a generous 48cm wide cooking grill, so food for four is no problem. Cleaning could not be more straightforward – the grill base lifts out for ash removal, and everything else wipes down.
