Dualit hand mixer summary
The Dualit whisk has delightful sleek lines and curves, and is all shiny chrome and black, making it a handsome, sturdy machine. With a 400W motor, it's also a little heavy, which may be a problem for some.
There are only four speed settings, but each packs a punch – at the top speed, this mixer flies. The efficient motor performed exceptionally well in all our tests, including the bread dough, though it did start to struggle after a couple of minutes. We love the retractable cable storage that tucks the cord neatly away inside the machine. Though one of the more expensive electric whisks on test, it's justified thanks to the excellent results it produces.
What were our first impressions of the Dualit hand mixer?
The sleek lines and curves, and shiny chrome-and-black body of the Dualit make this a very handsome-looking machine, and it comes in fully recyclable packaging. The build is quality, with a robust 400W motor. But, this sturdiness means it's also slightly heavier, which may not be to everyone’s liking.
Operating the Dualit couldn't be easier. There are only four speed settings, but right from speed 1, these pack a punch. At speed 4, it flies along. We like the long handle, which allows for a good, secure grip. On the top of the handle is a firm eject button, and the speed settings can be changed easily with a click, which prevents you slipping through the speeds too quickly.
How is the Dualit hand mixer to use?
Making bread dough is one of the hardest tests for a hand mixer, as a lot of pressure is needed to keep the bowl still and the dough from moving. The heavier weight of the Dualit and the long, sturdy beaters make this task easier than most, though after 2 minutes, the motor does start to struggle. It performed well in all our other tests, with minimal vibration up to speed 4. The results were good throughout, and we were impressed with the way it whisked buttercream with little effort.
We love the chrome on this electric whisk, but it marks easily, especially when using it with hands covered in oil or flour. This can spoil the appearance somewhat, but it can be easily cleaned with just a wipe. The excellent design of the Dualit rounds off with handy retractable cable storage that neatly tucks the cord away inside the machine.
Our verdict
The Dualit may be one of the more expensive hand mixers on test, but the price is justified by the excellent results and short work it makes of all the tasks it performs.
