Dometic DS600 mini fridge in a nutshell

Pros: no noise, infrared LED interior light
Cons: exterior plastic coating

Star rating: 4.5/5

Available from Hotel Buyer (from £418.01)

This black Dometic mini fridge is used in hotels, caravans and motor homes, so it's heavy-duty and efficient. Robust and sturdily built, this is the closest a mini fridge can get to a regular home fridge.

While it only holds 43 litres, the space is fully useable as there is no icebox. The two vented, hard plastic shelves ensure that what space there is can be used effectively.

There are two compartments in the upper door, both of which can be removed. There is also a generous-sized plastic bottle rack, which has a wire rail to prevent bottles from tipping over.

We liked the snap-close of the door and its durable seal, which guaranteed the door was firmly shut. An infrared LED light flicks on as soon as the door's opened and lights the interior well.

Temperature regulation is from a small dial inside the door and covers a wide scale, so most food and drink can be stored safely for long periods.

It came out top in our salad test – of all the mini fridges we tested, a salad we stored in this fridge had diminished the least after a week. This left us confident that this fridge could store surplus food from the main fridge if there was ever a need.

The stand-out feature of this well-designed fridge is the lack of noise. Dometic uses absorption technology for cooling, so this fridge makes no noise whatsoever – perfect for use in a bedroom.

The fridge has a lovely black exterior that will blend in with most décor. The refrigerator did show fingerprints slightly, but they were easily cleaned off.

The one aspect we didn't like was that the fridge had a protective plastic coating over the exterior. The plastic was impossible to remove entirely at the joints between the sides and roof, so it looked a little messy.
