Child-proof projects
Chocolate craft
Get the kids in the kitchen, then watch them beam with pride as they hand over their homemade treats. Scour your storecupboard for materials to work with and have a go at one of our easiest-ever recipes.
Even the smallest of hands can help every step of the way to making these really enormous chocolate buttons. All you need are a few bars of chocolate and some decorations – anything from colourful sprinkles to dried fruit will work well. A batch of chocolate bark is just as straightforward and can easily be adapted to use whatever you have to hand. Try salted fruit 'n' nut bark or white chocolate unicorn bark.
Biscuit bites
Chocolate, pretzels and raisins are all you need to make these crunchy pretzel bites, and with an assortment of biscuits, sweets and dried fruit, you can create fabulous fifteens or super-simple tiffin bites. If you can find an egg, caster sugar and a jar of peanut butter, these three-ingredient peanut butter cookies are your friend. For a colourful burst, make our funfetti biscuits using edible sprinkles or try these neapolitan-style Bourbon biscuits with multi-coloured fillings.
Impromptu afternoon tea
It's possible to put together a homemade afternoon tea, pronto. Firstly, make the savouries. Thinly slice a loaf of bread, then raid the fridge to find fillers – you could go classic with cream cheese & cucumber and egg mayonnaise, or opt for something different with brunch-inspired egg & bacon or veggie carrot & raisin sandwiches. Finish up your spread with our speedy raspberry jam that's ready in under half an hour – simply slather onto fruit scones and serve. For a zingy twist, try our moreish lemon drizzle scones.
Microwave magic
If you’re after a really rapid bake, abandon the oven and turn to the microwave. We’ve got last-minute microwave recipes for chocolate cake, coffee & walnut cake, peanut butter & jam brownies and banana pudding. You can also use your microwave to make crumbly boozy fudge in minutes, with no sugar thermometer required.
