Nina Matsunaga is the head chef at The Black Bull in Cumbria. She was born in Germany with Japanese heritage, which deeply influenced her way with food, as did studying culinary arts and food policy.
It was in a catering job in Manchester where she met her future husband and business partner, James. They started street stall The Moocher, specialising in wild game, which Nina still cooks with a lot now, before moving on to cafe-bakery The Three Hares.
The Black Bull opened in 2018 and has won a series of accolades, including being named in the top 50 gastropubs in the UK. For an insight into her culinary world, follow Nina on Instagram at @ninamatsunaga.
